Another great thing about Vegas... Gin before breakfast.
Oh, and craps! I finally decided to play & learn. It is good.
Having lunch & a Cuban/Mex restaurant in old Vegas, on Fremont St. Then headed back home.
This margarita tastes like tequila on ice w/ a lime squeezed in it.
Let it ride.

I'm looking for stuff to take with me overseas as little gifts. Specifically:
-mixed nuts/seeds
-spices/spice mixes
Anyone know where I can get these (with a Southwestern/Arizona flair) in little gift baskets/baggies or something? I guess I can always put them in little individual baggies myself, but I'd rather buy them already individually packaged to save time.

city walk, in my opinion, is like LA's version of times square in NYC. there's so much visual stimulation that your head starts to hurt after a while. fun place to visit... annoying place to shop/work/be at for more than a few hours (i'd imagine).
and that concludes all of my california photos. finnnnnally.

At least 3 people have told me in recent weeks that I am "ban happy" and that I just ban people willy-nilly. I have been mod of this community for 4 or 5 years (does anyone know exactly how long? It might be longer in which case I feel old), and in all that time, only 16 people have been banned. For the sake of transparency, I've described the bans below:
dangermike
-antagonizing, trolling
pnkvuitton
-sparse journal indicates sock puppet or troll
anewbornphoenix
mehmahmoou2
-i don't remember but the journals are gone. possibly from before i was made mod, or sock puppets from the below weirdos.
chabadabadootwo
flowinkatowgah
flowingtogah
-dude was obsessed with some guy in chandler who was maybe a pedo? i'm fairly certain these now suspended journals were involved, and there may have been others.
shtwzrd
-journal indicates sock puppet or troll.
mizzfagina
-don't remember. anyone remember?
ziff16
-journal is suspended, likely troll.
warpedshadow
-creep i don't know, yet he shared weirdly personal information about me in comments (in an azjournal post). one of the few times i've deleted comments.
decquire
-sparse journal indicates troll or sock puppet
pollypotthead
-journal supspended. i think i remember a lot of trolly weirdness with this one. anyone remember? eta: was also involved in chandler pedo weirdness.
friendofhorses
jennyridesagain
-weird troll person obsessed with horses in a not so pleasant way and being naked. the naked pictures she had posted publicly on her journal are forever seared in my memory.
anno_memoriae
-trolling personal journals.
That's it! I actually seem to remember at least one or two more, but they aren't on the list, so I may have unbanned them or they disappear from the list after a certain point (deleted/suspended journals may fall off the list at some point). If anyone has any insight, let me know. If you look back through the moderator post tag you can find a bit on the chandler pedo weirdness.
Anyone I have banned is either banned because of a gross violation, or because of repeated offenses, even if you don't necessarily see it.

Just a quick update from my phone before sleep...
Carlos & I are in Vegas, staying at The Mirage.
Thanks to a friend's VIP status here we are fortunate to be staying in a nice room on the 21st floor, overlooking the pool. We also have a decent view of The Strip. This is a nice change as it's generally been my experience to get a view of the roof or back lot.
So far it's been a relaxed trip as we arrived in the evening & were content to just get dinner and relax. Tomorrow, though will hopefully prove to be more eventful. :-)

july and august in phoenix are about as nasty a two month stretch as you can find anywhere anytime of the year. generally these are the most unproductive months regarding poetry for me. i can't write in the summer anymore. it gets worse each year. these are also the busiest months professionally for me. long hours, intense heat, a lot of naps. it's a real drain. add the new guitar and you can guess i'm not concentrating on poetry although i did receive some chapbooks in the mail today from one of my favorite poets. i think if you are not going to write poetry for a while you should concentrate on reading poetry.

I spent most of today sitting in a Midas waiting room. My breaks had finally caught up to me and I got them fixed. I should know better and just get them done at even a hint of squeaking, but I kept on going. I had some money socked away for my tattoo next month, but that is now gone, and I had to borrow money from Dad.
I had been thinking about trying to sell my bell I made, but now I'm more in "oh shit mode" now. I have no place to hang the bell so it is just sitting on a window sill inside my apt. I still have the plate and can make more bells in the future.

This guy is 13 lbs. I was thinking $100 for it. It is a one of kind. I changed the plate after I made this bell, so any other bells I make off of this mold will be shorter. Bells of this size sell for about $200 at work. I'd rather sell my first bell to a friend then trying to go the craigslist list route.

There's nothing quite like slimming your manuscript to its essentials. It's leaner and tougher than ever, and weighing in at 42 solid-ass poems, not a one of which doesn't set up or build on another. This part feels good.
In the course of giving this sucker a first sequencing, I realized just how dark it is. I mean, yes, in terms of tone and content, but also in terms of light levels. A truly inordinate amount of this book takes place at night, or at least does in my head. The occasional brightness punctuates well, but the only element in here that's keeping this book from falling into the oblivion of some sexless Lost Highway-on-downers is black humor. And while black humor is useful, and its cousin, sweet sadness, is in occasional effect as well, there must step forward a few stories that are truly, sincerely happy.
Balls.
But I jest. There're two brewing right now (one elaborate, one simple) in a sticky note on my laptop. Every time I get concerned about the percentage of my calendar this thing is taking, I look at how far its come, and with each new revelation where it could end up. And I stop pushing. It comes of its own accord, or rather, of my muse's accord. That's just fine by me.
In following the advice of one of my (brilliant!) editors, I loaded a lot of conflict onto this book. It's time now to make it enjoyable again, if only in rare glimpses. In the stories you don't remember until someone says a name you haven't heard in 20 years, and a small, hardened place in you crumples a little, while you're in line to buy tomatoes, smoked Gouda, mint.
